10th April 2021 - Rain
Rain brings out the scent of the vegetation as we cycle through the park to the mixed pond. A fresh, spring smell and the tang of wet tarmac.
I change in one of the stalls so that my clothes don’t get wet. A gentle tapping of droplets on the tin roof and the simplicity of the stall remind me of being a child. I’m not sure why, but it is nice.
The more pungent pond smell, amphibious and muddy, is also heightened by the rain. The water is freezing and numbs our toes more than normal.
Cycling back we keep our heads down and look forward to hills, which burn our thighs and warm us.
We have had the wildness we need to justify a lazy rest of the day indoors.
